NEW! Alexander Technique for Instrumentalists - Summer

Ages 18-Adult Alexander Technique is an educational method studied worldwide for over one hundred years. It is part of the training curriculum at many music conservatories and universities. It offers an effective means to help you solve physical problems that interfere with the complex coordination of playing. Identify and eliminate counterproductive movement and thought patterns that may be preventing you from reaching your full potential. Learn to reduce or do away with tension, effectively deal with pain, enhance your performance, prevent injuries and overcome performance anxiety. This Introductory class offers both a comprehensive introduction and in-depth exploration of the Technique through discussion, self-observation and hands-on demonstrations. We’ll apply the principles to a range of everyday movements and to playing student’s respective instruments.

Parent and Child Movement Experiences

A first exploration in music, this course awakens the natural beat within every child. Children experience pulse and rhythm through bouncing, kicking, crawling and, later, walking. Playful song activities are chosen carefully to foster early language development, while introducing pitch, phrasing, tempo and dynamics. Age-appropriate rhythm instruments help develop fundamental motor skills. Parents or caretakers share in the experience with their child. Caregivers are welcome, as well!
