Neighborhood Music School offers comprehensive programming in music, drama and dance, no matter your level or age.

Early childhood begins at NMS. From our arts-based preschool program to movement and music classes, our youngest students develop new skills and have a lot of fun in the process. Group classes including “Music in Motion” and “Drumming and Stomping” introduce young children to concepts like pitch and rhythm, while giving them the freedom to explore music through imaginative play. Individual music instruction at NMS allows families to choose from a wide range teaching styles, including Suzuki. And our arts-based Preschool and toddler program engages 2- 5-year-olds in play-based learning through visual art, music, dance and storytelling, developing their sense of curiosity and community spirit.

School-age programs at NMS offer opportunities for artistic enrichment around the clock, including after school care, evening, weekend and summer classes. Our long-running Audubon Arts summer program uses creative dramatics as the base for participants to explore singing and dance culminating in a final production; based on the summer program, Afterschool on Audubon provides enriching after school care for 7-11-year-olds two days a week. Individual and group dance, music and drama classes are another way for children and teens to discover their creative potential, whether it’s joining our improv troupe, taking hip hop, drums or music theory.

And it’s never too late for adults of any age to explore a totally new skill or work on an existing one. Through our dance, drama and music programs, our adult students cultivate interests and build community in a welcoming setting. NMS adult programming runs the gamut, from learning ballet or tap basics and improving flexibility to delivering your first monologue. Individual music classes allow one-on-one training, and our myriad ensembles – Baroque, classical, jazz, rock and beyond – are where you’ll make new friends, and some beautiful music, too.

Special programs focus on specific groups, such as our Vintage Voices dance and movement class for those 60 and up, and Dancing with Parkinson’s for those with Parkinson’s and related disorders, as well as their partners and caretakers. Our celebrated City Initiative program offers tuition-free musical lessons to inner-city students.

This is the place to begin your artistic exploration or discover the next chapter.

NMS is your place to shine.
